Kirk has extensive experience in school and higher education law, as well as labor and employment law issues.

Kirk is one of Wisconsin’s leading school and higher education attorneys, representing education institutions in all aspects of their operations and has been included in the Best Lawyers in America 2016 for Education Law as well as for Labor Law - Management. He advises education clients on all of the issues related to their status as governmental bodies, including open meetings, public records, search and seizure, and public contracting and bidding. He also advises schools and higher education institutions on the range of issues that are unique to educators and educational institutions, including pupil rights and discipline, pupil services, employment relations, administrator and teacher contracting, pupil transportation, regulation of co-curricular activities, open enrollment and residency, and other matters that are central to educational institutions’ day to day operations.

Kirk has also been recognized as a Wisconsin Super Lawyer in Employment and Labor Law. Kirk maintains an active labor and employment practice and advises employers on the full range of labor and employment relations issues, including collective bargaining and contract negotiations, claims of unfair and prohibited labor practices, family and medical leave, grievance and interest arbitration, employment policies and handbooks, unemployment and worker compensation, employment agreements, disability claims and accommodation, and other substantive areas that are central to human resources management and employment relations.

Kirk works with school districts, technical colleges, and other higher education institutions, as well as large and small private sector companies. In addition to Kirk’s transactional work, he continues to practice at the agency, circuit court and appellate court levels, and has made multiple appearances before our Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Kirk regularly presents legal information to groups around the state on education and labor and employment law issues. Kirk provides regular programming and training for the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA), the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA), the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO), the Wisconsin Association of School Superintendents Assistants (WASSA), the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association (WSAA), and the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association (WTCDBA). He also actively and regularly participates in programs and seminars sponsored by our firm for clients and friends, and also frequently provides programs and training for clients at their request.

Kirk is a contributing author of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s treatise on "Public Sector Labor Law Relations in Wisconsin." He has also advised the state Chamber of Commerce and the School Administrators’ Alliance on legislation and legislative issues affecting business and public schools. Kirk also chaired the State Bar of Wisconsin’s annual employment law program for 13 consecutive years.

Ann provides a variety of legal services representing individuals, businesses and municipalities in such areas as corporate law, creditors’ rights, real estate and construction, municipal and educational law, and general litigation.

Her service as one of the original members of the Stadium District and as the past Chair has provided her with experience dealing with press relations in high profile matters, which in turn has given her greater knowledge and sensitivity with respect to clients’ needs during their own high profile situations (i.e., mercury spill, threats of attacks on schools, PDD presentations for municipalities, policies which restrict rentals to Green Bay Packer players). Besides ownership and management responsibilities associated with law firms, Ann has had ownership in commercial real estate investments, and has developed a residential subdivision, including selling the lots herself, all of which has enhanced her understanding of the perspective of her business clients with respect to their investments and operations.

Tony concentrates his practice in labor and employment as well as school law litigation and counseling.

He provides advice and counsel to employers about their rights and obligations under federal and state laws and regulations. He advises on all aspects of labor and employment compliance, including wage and hour, leaves of absence, discrimination, harassment, reductions in force, work force management, employment policies and handbooks as well as other employment-related matters. Tony also has experience with labor negotiations, union certification and decertification campaigns, unfair labor practice litigation and contract administration, including grievance arbitration. He regularly represents clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, National Labor Relations Board, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission. In addition, he conducts employment-related training for management. His primary client base includes private (various industries) and public (counties, cities and school districts) employers of all sizes.

Jenna regularly advises clients on a variety of legal matters, including in such areas as Labor and Employment Law, School/Municipal Law, Real Estate, Contracts, and Civil Litigation.

In the area of Labor and Employment law, Jenna represents public and private employers in connection with discrimination/retaliation complaints, wrongful termination claims, wage and hour complaints, investigations, discipline and discharge, and employment contract disputes. She also assists employers with employee handbooks, personnel file matters, and general questions related to the application of state and federal employment and labor laws.

Jenna also has significant experience in the area of Civil Litigation, including representing public and private sector clients with employment-related matters, contract disputes, real estate/property disputes, construction disputes, and other matters. She has represented public and private sector entities at the administrative level, trial court level and appellate court level, in both state and federal court. Jenna also regularly counsels clients on the litigation process, and assists clients with resolving disputed issues without the need for litigation.

Chad’s practice is focused on working with school and higher education clients, as well as public and private employers in labor and employment relations issues. Chad regularly works with school district clients on governmental issues, employment relations matters, and education law issues, including pupil special education and disability accommodation matters. Chad is also experienced with public records, open meetings, and other issues that concern school district’s responsibilities as governmental bodies.

Chad also provides counsel in a variety of labor and employment matters, including legal compliance and defense of employers under the FLSA, FMLA, NLRA, and employment discrimination laws. He also has experience drafting and implementing a wide range of employment policies from his time as in-house counsel for a Wisconsin municipality.

Laura primarily practices in the areas of School and Higher Education Law, as well as Labor and Employment Law.

Before joining the firm, Laura worked in civil litigation as an associate attorney for a Milwaukee-based law firm. During law school, she clerked for a civil litigation firm and fellowed for the Milwaukee Justice Center and Milwaukee Volunteer Legal Clinic.

Before entering law school, Laura worked as a special educator and reading interventionist in Seattle Public Schools and as an English teacher in Milwaukee Public Schools. Ultimately, it was Laura’s experience in teaching that brought her into the legal field and to Strang, Patteson, Renning, Lewis and Lacy, s.c. Laura’s legal experience involves drafting court documents, representing clients in hearings, interviewing and counseling potential clients in anticipation of their legal matters, evaluating and interpreting laws, and taking depositions.

Callie practices in Immigration Law through her representation of public and private sector employers seeking the services of foreign workers in the United States, and provides support for the firm’s other practice areas. Before joining the firm, Callie served as an Assistant District Attorney in Milwaukee County and Brown County where she reviewed cases and issued charges on behalf of the State of Wisconsin, and represented the State of Wisconsin in court from initial appearance through sentencing, including in pretrial negotiations. In addition, Callie worked as a Criminal Justice Instructor teaching courses including Criminal Law and Procedure, Ethics, Cultural Diversity and Justice, Juvenile Justice and Criminology.
